”Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world”. 1 Peter 5:8-9(NKJV)

The very first thing to note is that you have an enemy; the devil. The enemy is not your friend, he is not your spouse or your brother. Usually, people are confused about who their enemy is because the same way God can use you, is the same way the devil also uses people. Sometimes people are used of the devil without them knowing that the enemy is using them. That is why we should be very tolerant and forbearing.

It’s not everybody that’s a willing and conscious agent of the devil. For instance, you may have had a very bad day and you’re feeling low, and throughout the day the enemy might have been pounding you with bad thoughts of you’re not good enough; etc. Then as you walked into a room, the first person that saw you says, my God, you look washed out; What would that do to you? It would make you feel worse, right?

Question: Did the person know what the enemy was saying to you the whole day?

Of course not, but the enemy used them to make you feel even worse about yourself. It is therefore important to note that while the person did not want to be intrusive or invasive, it has affected you in the wrong way. That is why we do not wrestle against flesh and blood. We should be merciful, compassionate, and gracious to people.

Even conscious agents of the devil, like the wizards and sorcerers are also deceived. Even though they act like they are conscious of what they are doing. The god of this age has blinded their minds and told them that they are the second in command to the him or promised them a rank.

The amplified bible says; ”Be sober [well balanced and self-disciplined], be alert and cautious at all times. That enemy of yours, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion [fiercely hungry], seeking someone to devour. But resist him, be firm in your faith [against his attack—rooted, established, immovable], knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being experienced by your brothers and sisters throughout the world. [You do not suffer alone.]” 1 Peter 5:8-9 AMP

John 10:10 says ”The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full”.

Jesus is not the thief, the devil is the thief and they are not pursuing the same agenda. They are not drawn from the same ministry. Praise the Lord Jesus.

The devil once told me when I was sick that God wanted to take me home. But I told him, God doesn’t need sickness to bring me home. In Hebrews 11:5 the Bible says ”By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, “and was not found, because God had taken him”. Which of the patriarchs went home with sickness and disease? Do not allow the devil to steal from you.

God said, if anyone attacks you it is not by His doing, He is not the one behind it. He said, ‘I will not put on you any of the diseases that I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord that heals you”. God is not the one putting sickness on you. He is the one healing you. Jesus went about doing good, healing all those who were oppressed of the devil, for God was with him. You see, these are basic things. They are fundamental things and we must settle these basic things in our minds. Do not allow the devil to steal from you.

Your Sense of Value is Rooted in Your Identity – Rev. Funke Ewuosho

SPIRITUAL IDENTITY

Your sense of value is rooted in your identity. This is true naturally and spiritually. Whether you’re dealing with poor self-esteem, a poverty mentality, or an abundance mentality, it is all rooted in your identity. For instance, it would be hard for Prince Charles to struggle with a poverty mentality because of his identity as a royal. So, when you’re looking at whatever thing you’re struggling with, it can be traced back to your identity. We all come from different backgrounds, we didn’t choose our parents or the family into which we were born or even the circumstances in which we were born. But we can choose Christ. Praise the Lord! We can all embrace a spiritual identity. In Christ, we are all on a level playing field. Hallelujah!

Who are you? In the bible we see how Moses identified with his natural identity when God called him to go to Pharoah – he saw himself as a stammerer. Gideon also identified with his natural identity when he said he said that his clan was the weakest and poorest, and that he was not eloquent.

Who does God say you are? Look at John the Baptist in John 1:19-23; when he was asked who he was, he said in verse 23, ”I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, make straight the way of the Lord”. That was his spiritual identity. He located himself in the Word of God. He located himself in the plans of God for his life.

John 1:19-23: Now this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?” He confessed, and did not deny, but confessed, “I am not the Christ. “And they asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” And he answered, “No.” Then they said to him, “Who are you, that we may give an answer to those who sent us? What do you say about yourself?” He said: “I am ‘The voice of one crying in the wilderness: “Make straight the way of the Lord,” ’as the prophet Isaiah said.”

In Romans 11:13, Apostle Paul said “For I speak to you Gentiles; in as much as I am an apostle to the Gentiles, I magnify my ministry.” Furthermore, in all the letters Paul wrote (except his epistle to the Philippians, Philemon and the First and Second Thessalonians) he would refer to himself as an Apostle. He took his office very seriously, so we must know our spiritual identity.

2 Corinthians 5:16 –18 (NKJV). “Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”

A lot of people want to tie us to our natural identity. The enemy wants to keep pulling us back and binding us to our natural identity. And unfortunately, for most of us, we are only conscious of our natural identity. Yet it is no match when it comes to spiritual warfare. We can’t go into spiritual warfare with our natural identity. This explains why when it comes to sin being unravelled and uncovered, we usually wonder how somebody of a ‘high level’ could be caught in a sinful act. Our natural identity is no match when it comes to sin because the flesh is weak.

If any man be in Christ he is a new creation, old things have passed away (2 Corinthians 5:17). The New Living Translation says that we are to stop evaluating others from a human point of view.

I pray that we will be delivered in Jesus’ Name, May we stop evaluating ourselves and others from a human point of view.

Overcome Your Fears

Overcome the fear of people, the fear of failure, the fear of death, the fear of the future, the fear of the unknown, the fear of rejection, etc. Fear will keep you in bondage to the devil, to people, to circumstance, to the status-quo and even to yourself! Fear will hold you back from breaking through! Fear will keep you in mediocrity. Fear will stop you from trying anything new; from breaking new grounds and new territories. Fear will stop you from investing in anything or anyone. Isaiah 54:2-4, “Enlarge the place of your tent, And let them stretch out the curtains of your dwellings; Do not spare; Lengthen your cords, And strengthen your stakes. For you shall expand to the right and to the left… Do not fear, for you will not be ashamed; Neither be disgraced, for you will not be put to shame”.

The question is, “How much more would you be willing to do if you were sure, you would not fail?” Note that, the children of Israel didn’t enter the Promised Land because of fear! Fear is a product of unbelief, and it always leads to disobedience, if not overcome. To break through, you must confront and overcome your fears. Esther said “If I perish, I perish” but she never perished. The three Hebrews refused to bow to the image of gold and were thrown into the firey furnace. But they didn’t burn. If you do not bow to your fears, you will not burn! David’s mighty men broke through the garrison of the Philistines to get water from the well of Bethlehem. (1 Chron. 12)

Sometimes you’ll need to break through the enemy territory to get what you need or desire! Jesus said “Behold I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy and nothing shall by any means hurt you”. (Luke. 10:19)

The Power Of Becoming

What are you becoming? Faith does not focus on where it is right now or what it is going through, but on what it is becoming! The Apostle Paul said “we are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed but not in despair. Persecuted but not forsaken; struck down but not destroyed”. (2 Cor. 4:8-9) Could you imagine what Paul must have been through? Is it possible to be hard-pressed and yet not be crushed? Yes! The Bible says “A merry heart does good like medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones” (Prov. 17:22) and also, “The human spirit can endure a sick body but who can bear it if the spirit is crushed.” (Prov. 18:14 N.L.T) Job’s story comes to mind; in all that he went through, we were told he did not sin nor charge God with wrong (Job 1:22). The Bible talks about the patience of Job: “Indeed we count them blessed who endure. You have heard of the perseverance of Job and seen the end intended by the Lord” (James 5:11). The Bible says the testing of our faith works patience and when we allow patience to run its full course, we become mature and complete, lacking nothing (James 1:1-4). We are to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promise. (Heb 6:12) A lot of people talk about faith but very few talk about patience. Notice, it isn’t faith or patience, it is faith AND patience! “Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise”. (Heb 10:35-36) This tells me that one reason why people don’t inherit the promise is the lack of patience. Paul said “We are perplexed, but we don’t give up and quit.” (2 Cor. 4:8 NLT)

Do you feel forsaken when going through persecution? The fact that you are going through persecution or a rough patch does not mean God has left you. He said He will never leave you nor forsake you. (Heb 13:6) He said, even if a mother could forget her nursing child, He will not forget you because you are inscribed on the palm of His hands (Is 49:15). Do you remember Joseph? He was stripped of his coat of many colours and sold as a slave by his brothers; yet the Bible says “The Lord was with Joseph and he was a successful man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian” (Gen 39:2). Joseph was thrown into the prison for an offence he didn’t commit; “But the LORD was with Joseph and showed him mercy, and He gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison.” (Gen 39:21) Didn’t Jesus say we would have a hundredfold in this life whatever we give up for His sake and the gospel’s “with persecutions” (Mark 10:29,30). Paul said “We are hunted down, but God never abandons us. We get knocked down, but we get up again and keep going.” (Cor 4:10 NLT) It is indeed possible to be struck down yet not destroyed! “For a righteous man may fall seven times and rise again.” (Prov 24:16) Truly, tough times don’t last but tough people do! Joseph kept going in spite of all the set-backs he suffered. The Psalmist said “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him out of them all.” (Ps 34:19) Not just out of some of them, but out of them all! Hallelujah! Another exciting thing about that also is that by the time the deliverance comes, one would not be the same. This was what James meant when he said we would become mature, lacking nothing!

I remember what God said to me when we were in the process of relocating to the United Kingdom in year 2000. He said though in the natural, it looked like the same scenario when I moved to Kano, Nigeria in 1988, in the spirit it was different. I had acquired a greater stature in the spirit over the twelve years of living and doing ministry in the ‘wilderness’ of Kano! “For when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow! So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be strong in character and ready for anything.” (Jas 1:3,4 NLT) God told me that because of my new level of maturity, I will find myself walking in a new level of authority. That is, what took me many years to accomplish in my past, would be accomplished in a shorter time. And that was what we experienced as we came into our new place of assignment.

Did you know that Fathering impacts future generations?

God is the Father, Creator and the One from whom everything derives its life, meaning and function. No earthly father was designed to take the place of the Father-God but rather to model His nature and attributes for their protégé or son to follow and to know the true nature of the Father-God. “For this cause, I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named”. (Ephesians 3:14-15). All fatherhood takes its bearing from the Father-God.

One of the roles the apostolic grace comes to play is to father people into their destinies. It has become very clear that many will miss out on the path to their destiny, because of the work of the flesh or the natural up-bringing of the person or even the environmental factors surrounding their development. If there are no fathers or leaders to lead right and help navigate away from the stumbling stones on the way, many will indeed miss the mark.

Without the fathering grace, many go astray from the path God has ordained for them. Of course, being helped or guided by the influence of another is a matter of choice, but those who were blessed to have good fathering and were able to recognise it and take full advantage of it have come out better in life than those who were not that fortunate. Definitely, no one is to take the blame if another makes wrong choices. All we are saying here is that fathers can help others navigate carefully to avoid the big issues that stop many in their tracks.

WALKING IN FAVOUR

“For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous; With favour You will surround him as with a shield” Psalm 5:12 (NKJV)

When we spend time labouring for something, we can accomplish much. However, when we walk in favour, much more can be accomplished in a shorter time. Favour opens doors for you that would not normally be opened to you in normal circumstances. What God has in store for us is fully possible only with His favour upon our lives. When Esther, for example, walked in divine favour with the king, she was able to secure the release of her people, the Israelites.

Benefits of walking in the favour of God:
1) Favour produces supernatural increase and promotion (Genesis 39:21).
2) Favour produces restoration of everything the enemy has stolen from you(Exodus 3:21).
3) Favour produces honour in the midst of your adversaries (Exodus 11:3).
4) Favour produces increased assets, especially in the area of real estate (Deut.33:23).
5) Favour produces great victories in the midst of great impossibilities (Joshua11:20).
6) Favour produces recognition, even when you seem the least likely to receive it(1 Samuel 16:22).
7) Favour produces prominence and preferential treatment (Esther 2:17).
8) Favour produces petitions granted even by ungodly evil authorities (Esther 5:8).

May you walk in and experience the favour of God in your life.

HANDLING FINANCIAL CRISIS

“Cast your burden on the Lord, And He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.” Psalm 55:22

God promised to make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert (Isaiah 43:19). With every trial, God will always make a way of escape for His people. God doesn’t want His people to suffer with the world. After Elijah declared that there was going to be a famine as a result of God’s judgment, he was told to go to brook Cherith, where he was fed. (1 Kings 17:2-3). And even when the brook dried up, Elijah was sent to Zarephath to be sustained by a widow. Elijah, the widow and her household were sustained throughout the famine – the bin of flour was not used up nor did the jar of oil run dry until the famine was over! In times of financial crisis or recession, we are not meant to panic like the people of the world. Jesus said men’s hearts will fail them from fear and expectation of those things which are coming on the earth. (Luke 21:26).

God does not want us to be moved by the things happening around us. He said He will shake the heavens and the earth, indicating the removal of things that can be shaken, so that the things which cannot be shaken (i.e. the Kingdom of God) may remain (Hebrews 12:26-29). Every man- made thing, helpful as it may be while it lasts, will be shaken; only the Kingdom of God, and everything established on it will remain unshaken. Our faith should, therefore, not rest on the wisdom of men but on the power of God! (1 Corinthians 2:5).

God is our source. It is He that gives us the power to get wealth.

“He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”

“Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness And rivers in the desert. We must give heed to the new thing God is doing.”

How will you experience new beginnings?

1. You must know it is NOW
“So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God.For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.” Mark 11:22-24

“Then Elijah said to Ahab, “Go up, eat and drink; for there is the sound of abundance of rain.” So Ahab went up to eat and drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; then he bowed down on the ground, and put his face between his knees, and said to his servant, “Go up now, look toward the sea.” So he went up and looked, and said, “There is nothing.” And seven times he said, “Go again.” Then it came to pass the seventh time, that he said, “There is a cloud, as small as a man’s hand, rising out of the sea!” So he said, “Go up, say to Ahab, ‘Prepare your chariot, and go down before the rain stops you.’ ” 1 Kings 18:41-44

Everything God has done starts first on the inside!

2. You must SEE it, you must perceive it
You should see what God is doing first with your spiritual eyes. Your spiritual eyes are the eyes of faith. The moment you can see it, there is a readiness to receive it. You must keep your eyes on the goal.

“See, I have this day set you over the nations and over the kingdoms, To root out and to pull down, To destroy and to throw down, To build and to plant.” Moreover the word of the Lord came to me, saying, “Jeremiah, what do you see?” And I said, “I see a branch of an almond tree.” Then the Lord said to me, “You have seen well, for I am [d]ready to perform My word.” Jeremiah 1:10-12

Don’t let distractions get in the way, you must keep your focus on God. Ask God to open your eyes today to see what he has begun.
If you can see it then God is ready to do it!

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1

3. You must forget the old
“Do not remember the former things, Nor consider the things of old.Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness And rivers in the desert.” Isaiah 43:18-19

Verse 19 shows us that the prerequisite of seeing the new thing is to forget the old.

We can learn from Abraham’s life; he did not consider his body when God told him that he was going to be a father.

In order to forget the past, we must maintain the stance of not dwelling on past calamities and troubles. Keep maintaining your stance and refuse to retain past experiences, thoughts and mindsets that remind you of the old. Eventually, you will forget the past. Hebrews 11:15-16 says, “And truly if they had called to mind that country from which they had come out, they would have had the opportunity to return. 16 But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.”

“And to Joseph were born two sons before the years of famine came, whom Asenath, the daughter of Poti-Pherah priest of On, bore to him.Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh: “For God has made me forget all my toil and all my father’s house.” Gen 41:50-51

Sometimes in order to forget your past troubles, you need to leave what is familiar to you. What God is doing is a new thing and it may bear no resemblance to what you knew or experienced before.

4. You must overcome your fears and doubts
Keep saying what God says until you overcome your fears!

“Sing, O barren, You who have not borne! Break forth into singing, and cry aloud,” Isaiah 54:1-4

You who have not labored with child! For more are the children of the desolate Than the children of the married woman,” says the Lord. “Enlarge the place of your tent, And let them stretch out the curtains of your dwellings; Do not spare; Lengthen your cords,

And strengthen your stakes. For you shall expand to the right and to the left, And your descendants will inherit the nations, And make the desolate cities inhabited. “Do not fear, for you will not be ashamed; Neither be disgraced, for you will not be put to shame; For you will forget the shame of your youth, And will not remember the reproach of your widowhood anymore. God is stretching you because God wants to do a new thing!”

You must be ready to step out of your comfort zone; it’s time to break away from fear!

5. Release your faith for the supernatural

When dealing with God put all your eggs in one basket! Believe God for something only He can do; nothing is too hard for the Lord.

Ephesians 3:20 says, “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us,”

“For thus says the Lord: ‘You shall not see wind, nor shall you see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, so that you, your cattle, and your animals may drink.’ And this is a simple matter in the sight of the Lord; He will also deliver the Moabites into your hand.” 2 Kings 3:17-18

In this new season, let us heed to the new things that God is doing!

Restoration

In December 2020, Rev. Funke Ewuosho led us in prophetic prayer, and the theme was restoration. Below are some notes on the prayer time.

Be glad then, you children of Zion, And rejoice in the Lord your God; For He has given you the [a]former rain faithfully, And He will cause the rain to come down for you—The former rain, And the latter rain in the first month. The threshing floors shall be full of wheat, And the vats shall overflow with new wine and oil. “So I will restore to you the years that the swarming [b]locust has eaten, The crawling locust, The consuming locust, And the chewing locust, My great army which I sent among you. You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, And praise the name of the Lord your God, Who has dealt wondrously with you; My people shall never be put to shame. Then you shall know that I am in the midst of Israel: I am the Lord your God And there is no other. My people shall never be put to shame. Joel 2:23-27 NKJV

Farmers who wait for perfect weather never plant. If they watch every cloud, they never harvest. Ecclesiastes 11:4 NLT

Despite the evil that is around God will preserve you.

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me, for the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted and to proclaim that captives will be released and prisoners will be freed.[a] He has sent me to tell those who mourn that the time of the Lord’s favour has come,[b] and with it, the day of God’s anger against their enemies. To all who mourn in Israel,[c] he will give a crown of beauty for ashes, a joyous blessing instead of mourning, festive praise instead of despair. In their righteousness, they will be like great oaks that the Lord has planted for his own glory. They will rebuild the ancient ruins, repairing cities destroyed long ago. They will revive them, though they have been deserted for many generations. Isaiah 61:1-4 NKJV

Read Isaiah 60 and Psalms 126

God is bringing restoration; He will vindicate you on every side.
We are going to praise with shouts of joy and sing of the mercies and the goodness of God.

Focus on the Word, not on what is happening around. When we focus on Him, He will turn things around; like preserving Israel in Egypt in the land of Goshen.

‘Behold, I will bring back the captivity of Jacob’s tents, And have mercy on his dwelling places; The city shall be built upon its own mound, And the palace shall remain according to its own plan. Then out of them shall proceed thanksgiving And the voice of those who make merry; I will multiply them, and they shall not diminish; I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small. Their children also shall be as before, And their congregation shall be established before Me; And I will punish all who oppress them. Their nobles shall be from among them, And their governor shall come from their midst; Then I will cause him to draw near, And he shall approach Me; For who is this who pledged his heart to approach Me?’ says the Lord. ‘You shall be My people, And I will be your God.’ ” Jeremiah 30:18-22 NKJV

Then he restored the chief butler to his butlership again, and he placed the cup in Pharaoh’s hand. Gen 40:21 NKJV

God is restoring your health, your name in the workplace, etc.

Another sign of restoration is being repaired –like the walls in the book of Nehemiah.

What needs to be repaired/mended in your life?

Healing: your health restored to the original condition

Then He said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” And he stretched it out, and it was restored as whole as the other. Matthew 12:13 NKJV

What parts of your walls are broken?

God is rebuilding the old ruins. He is rebuilding generationally in the lives of your children.

And they said to me, “The survivors who are left from the captivity in the province are there in great distress and reproach. The wall of Jerusalem is also broken down, and its gates are burned with fire.” Nehemiah 1:3 NKJV

Some things that characterize RESTORATION:

Double for your trouble

Instead of your shame, you shall have double honour, And instead of confusion, they shall rejoice in their portion. Therefore in their land, they shall possess double; Everlasting joy shall be theirs. “For I, the Lord, love justice; I hate robbery [a]for burnt offering; I will direct their work in truth, And will make with them an everlasting covenant. Isaiah 61:7-8 NKJV

Rejoice in your inheritance; double honour; double celebration.

The hand of God (anointing of the Holy Spirit) will come upon you

Read Ezekiel 37:1-14 (The Valley of Dry Bones)

The things that have gone dry, maybe your business, your finances, your marriage or your relationships -God is restoring life to you.
The breadth of God upon your life. Speak to issues in your life. Speak the Word of God and see the dead things be restored to life. God is opening the grave as you begin to prophesy.

Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. And soon the sky was black with clouds. A heavy wind brought a terrific rainstorm, and Ahab left quickly for Jezreel. Then the Lord gave special strength to Elijah. He tucked his cloak into his belt[a] and ran ahead of Ahab’s chariot all the way to the entrance of Jezreel. 1 Kings 18:45-46 NLT

NKJV: Then the hand of the Lord came upon Elijah; and he girded[a] up his loins and ran ahead of Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.

Elijah outrunning the chariots signifies speed, divine acceleration, etc.

God will restore to you the wasted years.

How could one chase a thousand, And two put ten thousand to flight, unless their Rock had sold them, and the Lord had surrendered them? Deuteronomy 32:30 NKJV.

It is the Lord’s doing!

Read 1 Samuel 30

David in Ziklag – he lost all his family and people and his people, and he strengthened himself in the Lord. This is not a time to mourn, but to rise up and take your garment of praise. David recovered all without lacking anything.

The solution is to recall the goodness of God and begin to encourage yourself in the Lord.
